Raleigh Interior Designer Johanna Lyle & Her Design Philosophy

About Us

At Jo Lyle & Co, our goal is simple: to design homes that feel gathered, lived-in, and deeply personal. Johanna Lyle is a Raleigh-based interior designer who works with homeowners seeking authentic, layered, cozy spaces that reflect their personal stories and influences.

Whether restoring the character of a historic home or designing interiors for a custom build, our approach balances creativity with meticulous organization. From initial design concepts to custom millwork and project coordination, we handle the details that bring your vision to life. We pride ourselves on sourcing pieces from unique vendors and supporting local Triangle-area craftspeople whenever possible, choosing what's special over what's easy. The result is a home that feels authentically rooted in its surroundings, yet unmistakably yours.

Known for our love of moody, muted jewel tones, rich palettes, and character-filled details, Jo Lyle & Co. infuses each room with warmth and authentic personality. We love to mix vintage finds, hand-crafted pieces, and custom elements, creating eclectic and intimate interiors that feel gathered over time.

We offer three distinct service levels: Design Consultations for quick guidance and direction, Design Days for focused room transformations with detailed shopping lists and layouts, and Full-Service Design for comprehensive projects where we handle every detail from concept to completion. This range allows us to work with diverse budgets while upholding our commitment to creating truly personalized spaces.

With a deep knowledge of historic home renovation and a passion for blending vintage with modern, Jo Lyle & Co. creates spaces that embody authentic, storied design that ages gracefully alongside the families who live there.

JOHANNA LYLE

PRINCIPAL & OWNER

Johanna Lyle is the owner and principal designer of Jo Lyle & Co. Before launching her own studio, Johanna studied drafting at the Art Institute of Chicago and worked as a lead designer at Centered by Design, where she gained hands-on experience managing comprehensive design projects. Earlier in her career, she worked in theatre and video production, cultivating a deep love of storytelling that now shapes every design decision. She is also a graduate of Wake Forest University.

A DIY-er turned professional, Johanna honed her design perspective in Chicago and Boston before calling Raleigh home. She believes design should feel authentic to its setting, whether that means honoring the architectural narrative of a historic Oakwood home, layering cozy textures into a Boylan Heights craftsman, or sourcing European vintage pieces that bring character and depth to modern spaces. Her aesthetic is moody, collected, and creatively layered, drawing clients who seek rich palettes and personal interiors.

She approaches each project with equal parts creativity and organization, ensuring the design process feels enjoyable rather than overwhelming. Clients appreciate her authentic, down-to-earth style and trust her expertise, knowing their homes will reflect their personal stories and lifestyle needs. For Johanna, great design is about crafting homes that feel genuinely gathered, deeply personal, and authentically yours.

Johanna lives in Raleigh with her husband and their two dogs, Howie and Ellie. She and her family travel frequently to her hometown of Chicago, where she never skips a stop at Portillo's!
