Iiesha’s Gift Makeover
I will not quickly forget the squeals of joy as Iiesha’s four kids shared the realization that they were now excited to turn on their video cameras during virtual school and tell all the kids that it wasn’t a virtual background, but their actual rooms. WOW. If you ever doubted the impact your living space can have, I’m here to tell you that it does matter.
This spring I had the priviledge of partnering with Iiesha and her family to transform their apartment in the city of Chicago. Iiesha and her kids experienced homelessness for ten years. They are now celebrating four years in stable housing, but still hadn’t been able to fully furnish and decorate their home.
Over the course of six weeks, I designed and sourced for their new space and in the span of a few short days, over 50 volunteers helped me to transform the four-bedroom apartment. Check out these transformations!

Iiesha has been trying to build and business doing Nails and Hair and so we created this workspace for her. She does YouTube videos and I wanted to give her in an interesting background for them, so I made this popular wall treatment rental-friendly! I bought small slats of wood, painted them black, and just used command strips to adhere them to the wall in this design!

All four kids wanted bedrooms that looked like “TikTok”… I had to do some research. From what I learned, it is all about the LED lights!

Now, I invite you to take some time to watch the whole makeover story (it’s long. pretend it’s a short tv show!) and don’t forget to grab some tissues!
